Sorry about that. I really thought I'd fixed that. It happens to very few people and I still don't know why.

Ironically, this just happened to me on localhost. I noticed a lot of Magpie RSS errors in the log and found that turning off the two feeds (news and security) fixed it. I also put the UGM widget above the two feeds on the dashboard, though once it was working, putting it back on the bottom worked too.

My wild guess is that there is some occasional corruption in the feeds which kills the internet connection for that session. Keeping UGM above the feeds might prevent it.
