This is probably a stupid newbie question :

Can I reorder documents, i.e. changing their id ?

The fact is that I do not always create documents in the right order.
For example, having a "folder" that contains documents, it arrives sometimes that I want to create another "folder" before it, i.e. with smaller id.

In my case, the id are given are sorted by creation date. This makes that Wayfinder lists the menu bar entries and menu entries not in the way I want. Can I "move" documents in up or down ?
I think that it is possible in Joomla. And in MODx ?

    Thanks.

Documents have a ’menu index’ property that you can use to change their position in things like wayfinder, if that’s the problem your having, its on the top pane page of the edit document page, opposite ’show in menu’.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

Or use the Doc Manager module to reorder items.

Type any number in the red box (shown in picture below)

The smallest number is on the top of the menu...

I have found that creating seperate unpublished folders under the main root and adding the various documents there and then using the menuindex is the easiest way to initially set up a site. Using this format you can add to and adjust the menus accordingly. ex:

            (unpub) Main Links
            Home - (mi 0)
            Forum - (mi 1)
            Blog - (mi 2)
            Contact - (mi 3)

            (unpub) 2nd Folder
            doc - (mi 0)
            doc - (mi 1)
            doc - (mi 2)
            (unpub) Utilities
            doc
            doc

Many thanks to all who answered.

I observed that for each "node" in the tree one can start the numerotation again. (menuitem 1, 2 , 3 , ...).
And than one can also have two items in the same branch with that have the same menuitem !

I cannot see yet if it these possibilities can be used for special purposes. Maybe for multilingual sites.
(I know that multilingual sites are a very discussed topic on MODx forums.)

I’m not very familiar with the DocManager. Are there special advantages in using it for reordering nodes ?

                Regards.

With Doc Manager, you don’t have to renumber all the documents individually, you can just drag and drop the list of documents to reorder them.

Wow ! This is fantastic. I tested.
                    Many thanks Bob !

Now I have another question, which does not concern the Doc Manager module but the document tree.
I observed that after deletion of all its child documents a parent node keeps its "parent" status.
I mean that the small cross left to its name remains. Is this a bug of MODx or do I have to change some option manually?
                    Thanks.

Not sure if its a bug or not, but the document apparently still has its "Container" box checked...

go to: edit doc -> Page Settings tab -> Container (uncheck)
