I got an error when I was trying to access the Manager page. After some time found that the first file:
core/config/config.inc.php (change the $modx_core_path variable)
is missing one more path to update and it is
Since it refers to /core/ sub-folders and can't find the /core/ in the root, it generates error and bans access to the Manager login page.

p.s. the page suggests updating the database workspaces table but in my case the path here is a sort of variable - {core_path}. Does it still require any change or update installation in version 2.5.7?]]>

<![CDATA[Bob's ModX Book]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/88157/bob-s-modx-book#dis-post-548966
I've been looking at getting the current official book on offer, and I was just wondering if there were plans to release a version 2 or it/revised edition? If required?

I know Smashing Magazine ( and many others) release printed editions and also a PDF to go with their publications. Are there plans for an e-book (PDF) edition of the Official book?

I am taken to the login screen but when I put in my credentials, I expect to be taken to the dashboard but instead am taken me to an error page that says:

The grizzly page isn’t working

grizzly didn’t send any data.

I can go to the regular localhost page (http://grizzly:8888/) and it tells me "Congratulations you downloaded ModX" but when I go to http://grizzly:8888/manager it takes me to the error page again and doesn't even give me the login option anymore. I have tried multiple times but get the same results every time. Any suggestions?]]>

<![CDATA[Blanc screen]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/96336/blanc-screen#dis-post-522975
I installed the modx WanChai theme bought on ThemeForest successful but when I go into the modx manager and I'm clicking on an item of the WanChai theme to configure it, I get a blanc screen.

I found on the internet that I have to turn off compress_js and compress_css in the modx_system_settings and deleted already the folder core/cache but it still does not work.

<![CDATA[Script to automatically add a user to a certain usergroup.]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/91586/script-to-automatically-add-a-user-to-a-certain-usergroup#dis-post-500715
I am trying to currently figure out how to automatically add a user to a certain usergroup, which can then be "checked" to see if a user has permission to do a certain action & whatnot. What I'm currently looking at doing in the grand scheme of things is to make a system which lets users "purchase" a usergroup upgrade (which is masquerading as a "template/download purchase") and then, from this I will now be able to check if that user has permission through php, and from that, display a download link if they do have the permission.

The part which I'm expecting to need the most help with would be the script that adds a user to the user group upon completion of a paypal purchase - I'm going to be reading up paypal's API soon and working with their sandbox, but I have no idea how to do this.

On a side note - if there is a better way of implementing these permissions, please do let me know. I'm trying to make something similar to Xenforo's Account upgrades.

Additional information:
I have the first setup working OK.

  • MODX Version: 2.2.10
  • PHP Version: 5.2.17
  • Database MySQL Version:
  • Additional Server Info:
  • Installed MODX Add-ons: none
  • Error Log Contents: (attach as file if it’s too large)

Solution Found:-

Unzip on the server, by default, converts file names to lowercase.

FYI. It is not always easy being open source!
I host on Linux at 1and1.
1and1's web space explorer works with IE, and claims to run on firefox (but it doesn't), and no Chrome?
My biggest problem is having to talk to Windows, with which I want no truck!]]>

<![CDATA[Tutorial Bug - MIGX Manage Child Resources]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/87239/tutorial-bug---migx-manage-child-resources#dis-post-480657 Found a bug in the following tutorial which is stopping me from proceeding

  • Now we create our MIGXdb - TV.
  • Create a new TV.
  • Name: childstutorial

  • Go to the tab: 'Input Options'
  • Under 'Configurations' add: 'childstutorial'

There is no Configurations setting/field/option under the tab Input Options
I'm using Revo 2.2.7.

Any idea what the proper documentation should say?]]>

<![CDATA[Reporting bugs - modal window]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/86460/reporting-bugs---modal-window#dis-post-476980 Found a possible bug in the documentation and hit the "let us know" link.

Can I suggest the popup/modal window needs to be much bigger to comfortably report an issue. The text area field especially is too small to paste text and edit data.

<![CDATA[Seeking Help in Post Migration Cleanup]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/86159/seeking-help-in-post-migration-cleanup#dis-post-475218
Cleanups include reviewing docs to ensure what is in the original docs is in the new docs. This ideally would include the stripping or removal of some of the confluence classes and special formatting. The best approach is to grab the document source, clean it up and then paste it into the code view of Redactor in the edit view of the document at rtfm.modx.com

This will be just the first phase. The second phase will be a major initiative to improve the core documentation for Revolution, XPDO and etc.

If you would like to volunteer to help get the docs back into their pre-move state, please send an email to help@modx.com including your username and I'll get you added. We will not have regular editors up and running for a couple weeks. We will have to issue you temporary credentials for front end editing.

<![CDATA[Review of W. Shawn Wilkersons's Book]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/83679/review-of-w-shawn-wilkersons-s-book#dis-post-469996
Why would we want another book, besides BobRay's Official Guide? Personally, I prefer to learn through at least three different authors, to get different points of view and different details highlighted. This has helped me over the last 20 years and more to get a fuller understanding of whatever it is I am studying. I have both books, and love them both equally. BobRay's book perhaps has a more "formal" feel to it, while Shawn's book comes at Revo from a different direction and has a more "practical" feel to it.

What I would like is some discussion of my review of this book, since I intend to polish up this review and submit it to Slashdot. They don't have anything at all on MODx, and I think it's time we did something about that.

as I somehow promised (drunken at MODXpo!) to provide a new documentation system, I'd like to ask you for your Opinion. There are several great systems and examples for documentation around the world. Which ones do you like and which you dont? Why and wny not? Which features do you like? Which features do you need? Which would be nice?

As most of us will know RTFM, lets take this as a start.

From a users/ learners view: What do you miss?
From an editors view: what do you like / miss / want?

Please let me know if you are an editor or a person who provided a MODX package.
