<![CDATA[Community giftbox: new packages!]]>
yesterday I created a new MODX package, available in the Package Manager from today on. It took me about one hour to setup a new site, install PackMan and create all (the two) chunks and one template to get it all working. It took me so long because the last time I did this was a year ago.

Then I told PackMan what Template he should pack, what folders he should add to that package and what chunks are beeing needed along with it. PackMan created the transport package for me, which I downloaded and then uploaded into the MODX repository, along with a description what it does.

In total, I spend about two hours. Now, I can save about 15 minutes on each project I create, based on this MODX Extra (which is Foundation 6).

And so does every one else who is using Foundation 6 with MODX.

By now, it has 4 downloads. That is 1 hour saved around the globe. With 2 hours of work beeing spent. So why don't you try and stuff your favourite tool into a MODX Extra? It would benefit all of us. It would lead to time saving and would encourage others to do it. And it will make it easier for people who are new to MODX start using it.

Today is my birthday. All I want is some new packages smiley

<![CDATA[Vitaly Friedman, editor-in-chief, of Smashing Magazine will be speaking at MODXpo!!]]>
I just want to make sure that everyone knows that we have an amazing line-up of speakers this year at MODXpo 2015! We have not only attracted some of the best in the MODX community, but also some very relevant people from outside of the MODX world. To prove it, you can check out the schedule on the website!

Vitaly Friedman, editor in chief of Smashing Magazine will be giving a talk on where web design is going!

He is also offering a workshop on November 23rd:

In this full-day workshop, Vitaly Friedman, editor-in-chief of Smashing Magazine, will present practical techniques, clever tricks and useful strategies you need to be aware of when working on any responsive design project. Most techniques are borrowed from mid-size and large-scale real-life projects, such as large e-commerce projects, online magazines and Web applications.

We'll be looking at specific techniques for building well organised, front-end software, and wherever possible this work will be hands-on. Vitaly will introduce theories and ideas for dealing with common problems, and attendees will be assigned small tasks so they can experiment for themselves with these techniques. This will be involve a mixture of both individual and group work. There will be plenty of time allocated to discussions, so we can make sure that everyone understands how they can apply what they've learned to their specific working environments.

I hope that everyone is excited about this year's MODXpo! If so, we also need help getting the word out. Please spread the word where you can!

Best regards,
Ben Davis]]> Mon, 26 Oct 2015 12:52:06 +0000

<![CDATA[MODXpo 2015 to take place in Munich, Germany, Nov 21 - 22]]> It is a 2 day conference from Nov 21 - 22.

We have made a website to keep you informed:

The search for sponsors, talks and speakers has quietly started and we would love to get feedback from the community. We have two forms created to gather input from you and it would be awesome if you could fill them out!

The first form is to gather topic ideas:

The second form is for anyone interested in giving a presentation:

Anyone that has worked on any interesting MODX project is eligible to present something.

The MODXpo is being hosted by the Munich agency, Kochan & Partner. They have a very talented web development team that use various frameworks and systems, but have a warm spot in their hearts for MODX and want to give back to the community.

The MODX Ambassadors, including myself, and MODX will be working very hard over the next few months to create the best possible conference for you. As details become available (ticket pricing, sponsor listing, speaker schedule), we will update the website. We should have much more to show by June.

It is never too early to communicate and I know that people need plenty of time to decide if they want to participate. It would be helpful if you were to put it into your calendar and share the link to the website via Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Let's get the word out!

Best regards,
