Hi, as the title says really. Would this be a good practice approach to developing a website with a product catalogue type structure? Using the file tree with individual elements for products isn't really a valid option. In the past I've used schemas with custom database tables but it was a fairly complex affair, I also struggled to get XPDO working. So I'm wondering if Articles could be utilised in this way, potentially a simpler solution without the need for CMPS etc.
What do you think?

I am interested in the same subject but several problems/issues:
1) products which go into multiple categories -- necessary function
2) having x by y row display, e.g. 2 products per row for 14 rows -- layout issue
3) how to have a proper menu of the *categories* such that clicking category displays all the appropriate products
I am not a programmer...
Thank you, Tom

with MIGXdb as TV it should be possible to have the Resourcetree as a category-tree and store the products in a custom-table. They can have relations to multiple resources.
How to configure something like that will be the next Tut I want add to rtfm

I've saw a couple tweets saying having problems with migxdb but I don't know what...
Two tables in 1-M relationship in migxdb would address category issue but how to make the categories menu items?????
Thank you, Tom

well, I'm not on twitter. If one tweets his problems on twitter, I can't help.
If you have the categories as resources, this can be done by wayfinder.

How can categories be resources if the same product must be in multiple categories??

as said above I will add a Tutorial how this can be done.
you will need a snippet-call. rowboat for example or a custom-one on this resources, which gets all products related to it. Each product can be related to multiple resources.
In the Manager, on resource-editor-form, you can have two grids as TVs. One grid shows a list of all products, where you can search and filter them and set/unset the relation to the resource.
Another one which shows only products related to the resource. when adding a new product to this grid, it would automatically be related to this resource.
also a rescource-tree-checkbox-TV can be added to add a product to muliple categories at once (as its done in visioncart, but with resources as category-tree)

Explanation makes sense but the tut will make it a LOT clearer.
Seems to me the simplest way is to make all the resources and have one and only one form to do all desired product data entry *and* for designating all the categories/resources to which a product belongs.
Thank you, Tom
You can use Articles for a product catalogue, and it's probably much better to do that compared to throwing them all in the tree.
You can do categories using an Auto-tag TV and tagLister + getResourcesTag.
