I've downloaded MODx 2.4 today and tried to install it for test.
After a successful setup (no error messages) I've tried to login into manager and was unable to do this. I've check the database, and the only row in modx_users table doesn't contain username.
So i guess something is wrong with the setup.
Make sure the database user has full rights.
Also, make sure your MODX Manager username and password don't contain any unusual characters.
Both checked (today I've repeated setup process several times)
username is "admin" and password is alphanumeric string
I think I would try dropping all the tables in the DB and re-running setup as a new install (rather than an update).
