For some unknown reason I cannot install packages on a new instance of ModX.
I can download the zipped file fine but when I hit Install the Console appears and just hangs (I posted about this issue a while back but no suggestions worked).
Is there any other way I can install the packages?
Technically it is possible to set things up manually, but that's mostly boring copy/paste, and you'll probably wont find many manual install instructions for packages, as the package manager takes care of all that!
It's best to figure out why it wont install for you. Do you have a link to the earlier discussion so we can see what you already tried?
If it's hanging, my guess is there was a PHP error it could not recover from, resulting in no feedback being sent to the console.
To check for this, open your browsers' developers tools and open the net/network tab *before* hitting install. You will see one initial AJAX request, and then a repeating request every second, polling for changes.
When the initial one is completed, check the response from it. This should be a JSON string, but in your case I'm guessing there will be a php error instead.
You can also check your servers' php error log to see if there are any hints as to why it is failing.
