Gee it's been a long time since I had this problem.

I'm trying to do a trad install on a local Wamp setup and I just cannot get past the
    Connection character set:
    Collation:
→ Create or test selection of your database.

It connects to the database ok but when pressing the test link I get the
Checking database: MODX could not create your database. Please manually create your database and then try again.

But of course manually creating the database makes no difference.

And it doesn't matter what collation or char set I try it makes no difference.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks

Are you sure the database name you're giving during setup is exactly the same as the one you see in PhpMyAdmin?

Are you using 'localhost' for the server name?

        Bob,

well when I test the connection it says it's all ok

→ Test database server connection and view collations.
        Connecting to database server: Success!

        - Checking MySQL server version: OK! Running: 5.6.17
        - Checking MySQL client version: OK! Running: 5.0.11-20120503-$Id:bf9ad53b11c9a57efdb1057292d73b928b8c5c77$

It's the next part with the character set and collation that causes the error.

          Hmm,

got it working. Not sure what I did, to me it looks like I just kept trying the same thing and finally it worked.
