How would I build a widget that allows me to update custom site settings....ie: default contact email, facebook link, default address and so on.
Is there a repository of widgets that people have created? It might give me some ideas on how to better utilize it.

Hmmmm. This might be kind of along the lines of what I am starting to work on. Store Hours, Email that a contact form is sent to, etc etc.
ClientConfig by Mark Hamstra is what other suggested to me some time ago.
