As I'm constantly looking to improve my process I'm curious to know how others deal with editing their code for modx.

I have all my templates and most my chucks linked to files on my server. I then edit the files in dreamweaver, save upload and refresh the browser. I have to turn off partial resource caching in settings so I don't have to keep clearing the cache. I use inspect a lot to test changes to my css then bring those changes into my css file in dreamweaver. Save and upload. I do this over and over.

I can make small tweaks to live pages and if it's a rebuild I just set up testing resources with new templates applied.

It would be great to hear what others do.

I do all my editing and testing locally with PhpStorm. It has a powerful deployment system so I could use it to update a live site with static resources and elements, but instead I just cut and paste to the live site's Manager.

      • I try to do all of my editing in MODX. Ace or CodeMirror are good code editors, and MODX is already a document management system, although usually limited to managing HTML content. The only thing lacking is an unzip feature in the File browser to keep me from spending all of my time in the Manager.

This takes the concept a lot farther than I ever have, and describes how to use MODX to create a really serious development environment. Revo 2.3's new search functionality makes it even better.
