Stripping rel attribute from abbr element in tinymce editor

I am trying to use the rel="something" attribute within the <abbr> element but after editing it using tinymce it is stripped out.
I understand that I may have to add the rel attribute as an extended_valid_element but in which file would I add it?
I am using Revolution 2.3.2.

help would be appreciated.
