Slow Site Issue

Hey Community...

So we have two sites that are sufferring from the same exact issue. doghaus.com and webbased.me both are in modx revo latest version and the time to first bite on both sites is really slow.

You can see here: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/cw19pd/doghaus.com and here: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/bG45n5/webbased.me that the 12.8kb and 12.7kb html of the home page takes over 3 seconds to load on both sites.

Not sure what to make of it. Has anyone seen this before?

We thought it was the server but then ran the same tests on other sites on the server and they respond very quickly.

Can you tell us more about the hosting environment, your MODX installs, and what's running on the pages?

Sure. I have both sites hosted at http://a2hosting.com/ on a vps server. Other sites on the same server are really fast.

On the doghaus page we have some social apis and the location google map. On the webbased site we have a chat control but the rest if just text or images.

The odd thing is if you run pingdom on any other pages of the sites the problem presists so its not page specific. These pages have nothing but text and images but the time to first byte is still a couple of seconds for a fairly small page.

The delay you are seeing generally points to processing times (PHP/MySQL). Can you tell us what is occurring on those pages from a MODX perspective? What snippets/plugins do you have running on those pages, output filters, or anything dynamic in nature (ie: if it's not raw HTML/CSS/JS).

On the home page I am using getResources, storeLocator, getImageList(Migx) snippets for fetching records as well as using 3rd party api keys for fetching posts from facebook, instagram, youtube and Twitter in doghaus site.

According to pingdom the 3rd party api's are coming in fast so not sure what the problem could be?

Could you share the template and page code so we can see what you have running? The problem as I noted earlier is going to be with the dynamic functionality of the website, and less the external services (unless you are making API calls, which can introduce a delay). The facebook javascript/iframe buttons for example will have minimal/no affect on the site performance at that stage in the game.

Alternatively, could you provide a MODX login to allow someone to look at the site?

Ok awesome. On the doghaus.com we moved from getResources to get back and that has helped a bit and how the wait on pingdom is almmost one second. But I think it can be optimized even more because that should not be the case. So any other insight would be helpful.
