Development Site In a Subdirectory

Hi,

I have installed MODX in a subdirectory in my hosting space and have installed and edited a template so that all the resources referred to in the template code are set with the path as the examples shown below:

The MODX installation directory is located as follows:

http://<domainname>/<MODXsubdirectoryname>/

So the full path is:

http://<domainname>/<MODXsubdirectoryname>/assets/templates/escapevelocity/

The problem is that when I refresh the page the page is showing with no styling. :?

Inserting the full path does not resolve the issue, btw.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I though I had saved the template to include that code - shows in the template but when I checked the source of the webpage it is not icluded.
I'm beginning to think that the 2.3.0 pl Traditional installation is borked as I now have no access to the Resources tree, saving pages doesn't complete and I've just received an Internal Server Error message.
My host provider is Powweb. I wonder if there is a MySQL server issue.

Is it best to start afresh with 2.3.1?

2.3.1 resolved a lot of teething issues so upgrading is always going to be worth it

I think I will have to install a new separate 2.3.1 installation and see how that goes. I'm beginning to wonder if 2.3.x is not ready for production yet.

I have just spent the past hour or so chatting with my service provide support and have been able to reproduce one issue where a user logs in, goes to open a template and the page goes completely blank. The only solution is to close the browser and try and log in again.

The more you log in the slower the system gets. This is the same with all web browsers tried so far: Firefox, Chrome and Safari (Mac) Chrome, Firefox and IE (PC).

In addition template updates are not getting processed, the clear cache function is not completing and sometimes nor is the Save function. In addition sections of the management tree fail to display properly and there appear to be lots of (red) issues with the database when I look at the phpmysqladmin page.
This was completely fresh installation and I had got as far as just about completing Video 2 of Jesse Showalter's 6-part MODX Implementation series before everything started going pear-shaped.

I have also learned that Safari is not a browser to be used to manage MODX.

I'm pretty certain there is nothing wrong with Jesse's instructions.

A fresh install wont hurt as long as your OK with installing the add ons again and creating the templates etc.

Just so your aware there were issues with 2.3 and some add ons so it could of been something like that that caused your issues but I don't know what you installed so only guessing, it could also be corrupt files on upload if you used FTP to upload the MODX files?

I must admit I find it very surprising to say the least that the Articles and Quip Extras are cleared as being fully compatible when they (particularly Quip) are clearly generating so many database errors on installation. I mentioned this in my earlier question: Articles Extra (Package) Installation Errors.

In addition, I can see distinct similarities in what I have experienced with those being experienced by Jesse Atomic: MODX 2.3 Website breaks after resource save.

And it is evident from Jesse's experience that trying a fresh installation of MODX 2.3.1 is not going to resolve the issues.

The list of Extras I had installed via Package Management were as follows:

• Ace
• archivist (Part the Articles Extra installation)
• Articles (Part the Articles Extra installation)
• CKEditor
• getpage (Part the Articles Extra installation)
• getResources (Part the Articles Extra installation)
• quip (Part the Articles Extra installation)
• taglister (Part the Articles Extra installation)
• TinyMCE
• Wayfinder

All installed without error except for Articles and quip as stated previously.
The database issues experienced both during installation and see via phpmysqladmin are definitely a big concern as I suspect they are contributing to the degraded and broken performance being experienced.

I can provide a list of the database output from the phpmysqladmin if that might help resolve any issues.

I perhaps wasn't very clear on what I meant by borked installation as I have found installing each of the versions 2.2.13, 2.2.14 and 2.3.0 (Traditional) of MODX itself all install without any errors at all - very seemless I have to say. A real credit the developers. The whole issue of my borked installations appears to raise its head as soon as I've installed the Extras (via the Package Management interface) and start trying to build a site using a downloaded template. I've tried the free Foundation 5 and Escape Velocity templates so far.

It would help to understand why those installation errors are occurring and why they are not an issue, though.

May I ask what Extras, if any, you have also got installed?
It may well be that MODX 2.3.x installed without any Extras installed works perfectly, but I wonder what proportion of installations operate without any.

In each case the installations I have completed were new installtions. I'm not a fan of upgrades as they tend to leave a lot of bloat behind.
