    Hi,

I'm experiencing the strangest thing. Whenever I put any URL of my website into my browser I get a '503 error, page could not be found,' but the title shows 'Error 404: Page not found'

BUT... I can still get to the manager and preview any page via the resource no problem, and then after that I'm now able to go to any page from any URL? Its really strange.

I've tried clearing the cache in manager and the browser, turning of friendly URL's and defaulting the htaccess file with no luck?

I'm on Revo 2.2.4-pl, I have the following extras, CodeMirror, FormIt, Gallery, MIGX, Quickemail & TinyMCE.

I know it used to work but can't tell when it failed because of this peculiarity in that once a broswer is able to display the website via the preview in manager, I can no longer seem to get it to fail.

So if you go to website www.zerotempenvironmental.co.uk you should see the error, but if I was to get you into manager and preview a resource, after that you would no longer have any problems?

    Any ideas?

Thanks. [ed. note: mflammia last edited this post 11 years, 5 months ago.]
    • Looks more like it's really a 503 error, but it can't find the proper page to display a 503 error so it's also returning a 404 "not found" error.

The site can frequently behave differently for logged-in Manager users. This sounds like some kind of server misconfiguration. What is your server environment?

      • That sounds suspiciously like what happened when I locked myself out of the front end with permissions. About 5 weeks ago maybe, I posted here with the exact same issue. Turned out to be a resource group ACL that was doing it. Previewing from the manager worked fine, as did navigation post preview, but not just loading up the page itself.

If you've touched permissions at all, check there first. Course, once it's messed up it's hard to find what's causing it. I ended up deleting all the entries and starting fresh with permissions.

Thanks both for posting, you are a life saver!

I deleted the one user I had created and it started working again!

Thank you very much, phew smiley

              Hi all,

I'm getting the same exact issue on my fresh installation of 2.2.4 and 2.2.6 but im getting that on the manager.

The strange part is that even thought modx has installed perfectly i still get the default 503 page at the root directory.

I didn't really understand your solution here. Could someone elaborate a bit perhaps?

                Hi twenty3nl,

                Did you solve this issue?
I am also having the issue with the Manager after a fresh install of MODX Revolution v. 2.3.1?
mflammia's solution does not work for me, since I didn't create any users yet.

                Rgds
