Case in point: Generally speaking, search engines will not display more than 160 character of a meta description. To make sure content editors stay within this limit, I'd like to see a feature that would let the administrator limit the number of characters allowed in a field.

This would be useful for other things as well, such as longtitle. Perhaps it could be accomplished with a new feature in form customization?

Make it a TV in 2.1, and give it a max length there.

Can you explain how to do this?

    See attached image & http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Creating+a+Template+Variable

Just to add for clarity - you can only do that in MODX 2.1 and up.

I still think standard fields should be limitable
Using a template variable for things like Description seems a little redundant when it's already built in.
