Shaun has done an incredible job on the new forums. In the end we decided to use Discuss, a MODX Add-on application that will be released in the Package Manager for the Community next year after it's thoroughly tested, security audited and we have the time to create a solid build script (it's a really intense application).
Over the past couple of weeks we've had Partners testing the forums and have started optimizing for caching and speed. But we need your help to make sure it's working as expected,
so let us know your modx.com username in this thread and we'll give you access to
http://ttyl.modx.com/
Please report all bugs and make suggestions: http://bugs.modx.com/projects/discuss/issues
Some notes:
- It's limited to folks who request access for now. If you get a response in this topic from Robert you'll need to logout of the main MODX website then log back in and you should be able to see the forums that look suspiciously like the current forums.
- Your login should be the same as your MODX login, not your old SMF login ... finally all your MODX logins will reside under one account.
- If your modx.com username and your SMF username is the same, it will automatically merge accounts. If they're different, once you login, click on "Profile" then "Merge Account" on the left to merge your accounts. Your username will now be your modx.com username. Please let us know if there are any issues with this
- The import from SMF was done on Apr 28 9:28AM, so your latest posts made here will not be present.
- Don't expect any posts made in the ttyl.modx.com test instance to survive the public launch. It's for testing and playing only and a re-import will occur. Also, don't expect any real support there either ... it's purely for testing and as a playground.
- We're working on a completely new skin for the public unveiling.
- No more user-uploaded avatars, but you can use a Gravatar associated with your email address if you want one: http://gravatar.com/
- PMs are really private discussions now and pretty cool. You can add people to them after the fact now, too.
- Email notifications are turned off right now, but they do work.
- Old attachments were not moved over and are not downloadable. New attachments will work fine.
- Discuss will eventually support threaded conversations, but for performance reasons we opted for a flat non-nested implementation for now.
Functionality that's already planned for the future:
- Mark posts as answered/solved—this allows people indicate when an answer (or more than one answer) solves or addresses their posts/questions. Also as an aside, anyone that does so when the forums launch will get points for both marking a post as answered and for being the person that provided the answer ...
- Adding more events to make plugin authoring more straightforward
- Next/Previous links on threads
- Send thread via email
- Template responses for moderators and admins
- Embedding parts of the forums on other contexts of a MODX site
- Tagging Threads (not individual post)
Again, please report all bugs and make suggestions: http://bugs.modx.com/projects/discuss/issues
DIscussions and questions welcomed in this thread too.

Susan, without being in the right MODX user group all sorts of silliness ensues indeed.
Tom, it won't take a year to get it out (there's functionally only 7 months left in this year and we may be stating an extended timeframe that's easy to beat), but testing it for security and getting it packaged for one-click installation will actually take a while and there are paying things that unfortunately sometimes get in the way. The code is available now on Github though, but there is no documentation or help available for getting it up and running.
We'll add you both to the group.

I'd love to help test, Ryan!
Hey guys, could you post your modx.com usernames? And yes, the redirects will happen until you're in the group.
We'd love to have pretty much anyone we can help test until it becomes difficult to keep up with manual additions to the user group. One caveat however: you must have a MODX user profile. If you don't you can sign up at
http://modx.com/login/ by clicking the "Register Today!" button on the login form. We need to know your MODX username in order to get you into the right Access Control List (ACL).
